Doughty Wins Norris!

Many would say Doughty’s meeting with James Norris has been long overdue and we would agree. Despite finishing 4th this season in our top 10 rankings, he ranked 2nd last season and 1st in the 2013/14 season. Here are his rankings over the past three seasons:

Results based on cumulative data from 2013/14, 14/15 and 15/16 seasons. Rankings require a minimum number of games to qualify.

OVERALL at EVEN STRENGTH RANK: 2nd
OFFENSIVE RANK: 6th

Even Strength

Game Situation Rank
Positive Offense: 8th
Break Out: 7th
Rush Attack/Transition: 11th
Offensive Zone Play: 9th

DEFENSIVE RANK: 12th

Even Strength

Game Situation Rank
Positive Defense: 10th
Rush Defend: 12th
Defensive Zone Coverage: 39th
High Impact Positive Defensive Play’s: 2nd

Doughty possesses a rare combination of elite offensive and defensive ability. Being able to “do it all” may have actually hurt his Norris bids in the past but has helped the Kings win two Cups and be in contention every year. In this year’s playoffs, despite the Kings getting bounced in the first round by the Sharks, Doughty and his partner Jake Muzzin were two of the highest contributing Defensemen, on a per game play-by-play basis.

Congrats to Doughty….never has “better late than never” been so sweet!
