Walt McKechnie–Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club: Official Centennial Publication

walt mckechnieI grew up in London, Ontario, dreaming about being a Toronto Maple Leaf. I was very fortunate that my dreams came true. Jim Gregory traded for me (in 1978). It was one of the proudest moments of my life because my mother raised me and she was so darned proud when I became a Toronto Maple Leaf. She worked in a factory back in London and all the guys in the factory used to tease her. I’m very proud of having been a Maple Leaf. It is one of the greatest things that ever happened to me, and once you’re a Leaf, you’re always a Leaf.

Walt McKechnie, Player, 1978-1980
